USPS Confirm Outage - Scheduled Maintainance
Notice from the Confirm department, they are very good about communicating outages in advance-

On Sunday, September 12th, 2010 starting at 12:00PM Central - 8:00PM Central, our database management team will initiate a planned maintenance outage. During this period, access to the Mail Tracking & Reporting website will be temporarily unavailable. Upon completion of the maintenance, access to the MTR website will resume.

Postal Regulatory Commission to Begin Deliberations on Rate Hike
The Commission will meet in CLOSED session at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2010 to consider Deliberations and Decision in Docket R2010-4, Rate Adjustment due to Extraordinary or Exceptional Circumstances. The Commission will hold an OPEN meeting at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 10 to consider and adopt its Fiscal Year 2012 budget. Both meetings will be conducted in the Commission Conference Room at Commission Headquarters, 901 New York Ave., NW, Suite 200.
Submitting Electronic Documentation with Comailed and Copalletized Mailings

Today, the Federal Register published our final rule to require mailers preparing comailed or copalletized mailings - or mail owners who contribute mailpieces to a consolidated comailed or copalletized mailing - to submit electronic documentation to the USPS® by an approved method.
The new standards are effective January 2, 2011, and the entire final rule can be viewed on the Postal Explorer® website at pe.usps.com by clicking on “Federal Register Notices” in the left frame.

New Font Size Option for Optional Endorsement Lines
We revised 708.7.2 to provide a new font size option for mailers applying an optional endorsement line (OEL) to their mailpieces that do not bear a traditional Address Change Service (ACS) participant code.
From the DMM 708.7.2:
At the mailer’s option, characters are a minimum of 8 point font size on mailpieces that do not bear a traditional ACS printed participant code (see 507.4.0). Under this option, characters may not overlap and must be evenly spaced.

Don’t Allow the USPS to Continue Costly Business Practices
“The Post Office needs to reevaluate their approach,” said Jerry Cerasale, Affordable Mail Alliance Spokesperson and Senior Vice President of the Direct Marketing Association. “Instead of trying to keep things afloat with a giant tax on consumers, the USPS should focus on improving management and controlling costs to get out of this mess. To do otherwise is just bad business.”

Tha National Association of Letter Carriers, in comments filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission, agrees with the Mailhandlers Union in suggesting that Maine Senator Susan Collins is misinterpreting the postal reform law she helped to write.

I don’t think Senator Collins is the one that is misinterpeting.
