The USPS Drop Ship Entry Points Formerly Known as BMCs

without comments

While everyone is scrambling because PostaOne! and FAST down time continues, the USPS posted a DMM Advisory on this important undertaking - renaming all the Bulk Mail Centers (BMCs) to National Distribution Centers (NDCs).  Since presort vendors and mailers don’t have enough to deal with doing USPS workarounds as systems fail, the USPS figures changing up all of the Mailing Statements, again (second time so far in 2010).  The only change is BMC to NDC on the destinations.

Not included with the DMM Advisory, but part of the Supplementary Information to the posted Federal Register notice:
“This revision will be limited to the change in nomenclature only.  There will be no changes to mailing standards, service standards, or USPS processes resulting from this action. ”
The next sentences are the ones to pay close attention to:
“The Postal Service expects to be proposing changes to the standards surrounding the preparation, entry, and deposit of mailpieces pursuant to final implementation of the NDC concept. Any such changes will be the subject of future Federal Register notices.”

Stay tuned…
